The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently released the very first set of national guidelines meant to reduce the alarming increase in deaths related to prescription drugs. New numbers indicate that over 28,600 deaths involving opioids occurred last year. The government is responding to this crisis by encouraging providers to stop prescribing OxyContin and other, similar opioids.
The CDC is encouraging physicians to recommend alternative forms of care for pain management, including the use of chiropractic.
“It’s heartening to see the growing opioid epidemic is finally gaining the attention it deserves,” – Sherry McAllister, DC, executive vice president of the not-for-profit Foundation for Chiropractic Progress
